Hayes and Solsvig Set the Pace in First National Semi-Final
4/27/08- Geneva, NY- University of Vermont Catamounts, Clinton Hayes and
Coco Solsvig, have been named the Coed Sailors of the Week by the New
England Intercollegiate Sailing Association. Hayes and Solsvig prevailed
over a very talented field in A-division at the Intercollegiate Sailing
Association Eastern Semi-Final Championship. Their performance enabled
UVM to qualify for the ICSA Coed Dinghy Championship for the first time
in the program's history. In conditions that ranged from three to
sixteen knots Hayes and Solsvig sailed a nearly flawless series
finishing outside of the top five only once in the eight races sailed.
They finished in the top three in five of eight races sailing against a
division that included three All American skippers.
Barry and Walker Dominate Their Division at the Southern Series
4/27/08- Newport, RI- Over the weekend many of the teams that have
qualified for the National Women's Championship sailed in the Southern
Series hosted by Salve Regina as a warm up for the Championship. The
Brown Bears B-division tandem of Elizabeth Barry and Amy Walker proved
that they will be tough to beat come May. After finishing fourth and
eighth in the first two races, they installed a "picket fence" on the
score sheet by winning eight consecutive races! They won their division
by fourteen points. For their efforts they have been named the Women's
Sailors of the Week by the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association.
